Conference Abstract:
The Center on Knowledge Translation for Disability and Rehabilitation Research (Center on KTDRR) invites you to join its 2024 virtual knowledge translation (KT) conference. This year’s programming will focus on how to ensure full and equitable inclusion in KT of people with disabilities from a wide range of disabilities. Presenters also will discuss how KT activities can address intersections of disability with and among gender/sexual orientation, racial/ethnic identity, socioeconomic background, rurality, religion and/or national origin. Inclusive strategies to promote uptake of findings thoughtfully address users’ perspectives as understood from this intersectional lens.

Where: The conference will take place entirely online..
When: October 15, 16, and 18, 2024, 1–5 p.m. (Eastern Time) each day

There is no charge to attend.

Using the Brandwatch Topic Wheel

Brandwatch

Brandwatch is a social media tool. The Center on KTDRR offers free use of it and related technical assistance to all grantees of the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) and has previously released two explanatory videos about this tool.

This third video in the Center on KTDRR’s five-part series on Brandwatch explores the Topic Wheel. This tool identifies recurring words and phrases in social media conversations of interest to the Brandwatch user. It can then organize those conversations into topics and subtopics. Grantees can use the Topic Wheel to identify key conversations related to their project work, analyze recurring themes, and spot gaps and opportunities in what their projects themselves share on social media. By leveraging the topic wheel, grantees can tailor their website content and social media strategy, monitor and adjust their strategies as needed, and engage with their audiences better.

#ICYMI – Webcast Archives From Summer 2024

Never Miss a Webcast

Archives are available for two of the Center on KTDRR’s recent webcasts:

1) “Improving Disability and Rehabilitation Research Content within Wikipedia, the World's Largest Online Encyclopedia.” In this webinar, Ariel Cetrone of Wikimedia DC discussed the structure and design of Wikipedia and how users can help close the gaps related to disability and rehabilitation research.

2) “Assessing the Quality and Applicability of Systematic Reviews (AQASR).” KTDRR staff described the background of AQASR and how to use it, and demonstrated how to create a checklist for a disability-oriented systematic review.

Each archived webcast includes a captioned audio/video file, a transcript, accessible presentation materials, as well as a brief evaluation survey to gather feedback.

Global Evidence Summit: Using evidence. Improving lives.

KTDRR Staff at the Global Evidence Summit 2024

KTDRR Director Kathleen Murphy and—with support from the American Institutes for Research Workforce Program Area’s Disability Hub—Quality Assurance reviewer Cindy Cai attended the 2024 Global Evidence Summit. The conference took place in Prague, Czech Republic, September 10–13. Murphy and Cai attended as co-chairs of the Campbell Collaboration’s Coordinating Group on Knowledge Translation and Implementation. One primary activity of theirs was to participate in a team that planned and delivered a workshop, “From evidence to implementation: The role of co-production in producing health and social research and guidelines.” Other workshop team were April English, Consumer Engagement Manager of the Cochrane Collaboration; Maureen Smith, Chair of the Cochrane Consumer Network Executive and also representing the Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) Evidence Alliance; Bianca Pilla, Director of Global Relations for JBI; and Penka Marthe Bogne, Vice Chair of the Guidelines International Network (GIN)’s African Regional Community.

The first part of the session was a panel discussion among Cindy Cai, Penka Marthe Bogne and Maureen Smith, facilitated by Bianca Pilla, to identify common barriers to co-production experienced across their respective organizations. During the second half of the session, Kathleen Murphy facilitated a World Cafe at which participants shared their own experiences and brainstormed solutions to address those barriers. The session concluded with the small groups sharing their ideas for future collaborations among evidence synthesis organizations.

The conference also provided Murphy and Cai multiple networking opportunities. Stay tuned as KTDRR explores these relationships to expand the international visibility of NIDILRR grantees and their work.
