Dr. Susan Magasi is an associate professor of occupational therapy and disability studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her research team, called the Program for Healthcare Justice for People with Disabilities, is committed to identifying and eliminating barriers to health care access, quality, and outcomes for people with disabilities. She uses a community-engaged participatory approach by partnering with people with disabilities in all phases of the research process from conceptualization through knowledge translation. She is increasingly focused on developing the capacity of the next generation of health and disability disparities researchers, which must include researchers and community collaborators with disabilities.
