Website Policies; Center on Knowledge Translation for Disability and Rehabilitation Research (KTDRR)

AIR operates the Center on KTDRR Center through funding from the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR). Our institution (AIR/KTDRR) is committed to ensuring accessibility of its Web site to as many potential visitors as possible. In an effort to provide accessible Web pages, the KTDRR staff follows these steps:

Accessibility

  1. All pages on our Web site will conform to W3C/WAI's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 priority level II.
  2. Each page of the KTDRR Web site is reviewed according to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 (WCAG) using Web-based accessibility analysis tools as well as available Screenreader tools. Examples of these are the following:
These validators also checks for compliance with Section 508 Guidelines. Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act was enacted to eliminate barriers in information technology, to make available new opportunities for people with disabilities, and to encourage development of technologies that will help achieve these goals. The law applies to all Federal agencies when they develop, procure, maintain, or use electronic and information technology. Under Section 508 (29 U.S.C. 794d), agencies must give disabled employees and members of the public access to information that is comparable to the access available to others
  3. For multimedia features such as webcasts, images, PowerPoint documents, audio/video components, and other specialized Web-based applications, the KTDRR staff works closely with individual viewers and the W3C Web Accessibility in Mind (WebAim) discussion group to resolve accessibility challenges in order to identify and address accessibility barriers that may be inherent in certain designs or software applications.
  4. The website is based on the Web Experience Toolkit (WET) that includes ready-made solutions for building and maintaining innovative Web sites that are accessible, usable, (respects accessibility WCAG 2.0 AA and WAI-ARIA, HTML 5.0 technologies), and interoperable.
