Abstract: Reviews 34 studies on various anxiety disorders that used experience sampling methods (ESM) or ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to assess symptoms and other variables in the natural environment. Notes that ESM and EMA have been fruitfully combined with other approaches to collecting data on these disorders, and makes suggestions for clinical applications and research.
